Nefelibata captures a lone fisherman crossing the quiet waters of Lake Pichola at sunset. Photographed by Nishit Jariwala in Udaipur in September 2015, the image holds a simple stillness between the fading light, the distant hills, and the wide expanse of water.
The word nefelibata means a “cloud-walker,” someone who lives among dreams, imagination, and thoughts rather than being entirely bound by the ordinary world. The tiny boat moving across the vast lake seems to carry that feeling with it.
There is something quietly beautiful about the scene. The fisherman moves through the world, yet appears almost untouched by it, surrounded by nothing but sky, water, and fading light.
Perhaps a nefelibata is simply someone whose journey takes place as much within as it does in the world.
